Below you can see the programme of the AHX 2017 to Zambia. This can be used as an indication. This page will soon be updated with a example programme for Uganda, the main programme will be similar, though the location obviously different. During the trip we will live from day to day. If you have questions about the program, don't hesitate to contact us!
Once we arrive, our bus will bring us to the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC). This will be our home base for most of the time and there is also the field hockey pitch.
We start the AHX with a hockey tournament with and against local hockey teams. We invite teams from Zambia and the other Project countries to participate in this tournament. It will be all about having fun and get to know the local hockey community. They will teach you to play on bare feet and you can teach them the newest techniques. In the evening we will check the night life of Lusaka.
The Super Juniors are the youngest group fo children playing hockey at OYDC. During these trainings they do not only play hockey, but they also sing, dance and laugh. This combination makes the training on big celebration. In the afternoon there is time to go the city market.
The Hockey Dreams coaches are an important part of the Hockey Dreams Foundation. They will show all the participants where and how they live. In smaller groups we will walk through the compounds of Lusaka to see how all the coaches are living. This will be a confronting, but also an amazing experience. You will be grateful seeing how happy all these locals are.
Today we will visit several projects of the coaches. For example, the SOS-children's village, a school with deaf children and other schools near OYDC where the coaches give hockeyclinics to the kids. In the evening we enjoy a real Zambian meal.
In the morning we take our bus to Livingstone. When we arrive there, we will visit one of the seven Wonders of the world: The Victoria Falls. During the afternoon there is time for relaxation at the lodge.
You will have a free day in Livingstone. You can go bungeejumping, rafting on the Zambezi or go on a safari. If the water level enables you, you could even go the world famous Devils pool. In the evening we will have a drink in one of the many Livingstone has.
After our visit in Livingstone, we drive back to OYDC in Lusaka. We might have time during the trip to stop at several places.
The last weekend will be focused on a hockey camp. The Hockey Dreams coaches organize a hockey camp for the Lusaka youth. The entire day clinics will be provided and in between fun activities are organized. We will support all the coaches during these days.
The second day of camp will also be the last hockey day of the AHX. The camp will end with a tournament, where all the enthusiasm can be seen at all the faces. The day will end with the price ceremony.
